The EcoBoost Mustang featured the all-new 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with a significant power output of 233 kW (310 hp) and 432 Nm torque. The Ecoboost engine model was known to deliver superior power while offering better fuel economy when compared to the Mustang GT . Launched in 2016 by Ford Australia, RHD delivered vehicles down under arrived standard as performance pack edition Mustangs from North America. Even though the faithful were initially a bit disappointed with a relatively small displacement of this engine, pretty soon, EcoBoost Mustang proved its worth. With more than enough power for the entry model, this version posted respectable performance figures. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint took just 5.6 seconds with the 240 km/h top speed (limited). The standard equipment included 19-inch wheels, HID headlights, navigation, push-button start, heated and cooled front seats, 8.0-inch Sync 2 infotainment system and AdvanceTrac with Dynamic Stability Control system.
The Australian Mustang four cylinder Mustang for the 2015 model year was offered by Ford Australia in two body styles – coupe and convertible. The coupe with the six speed manual transmission started at $44,990, and the six speed automatic transmission (with paddle shifters) was $2,500 more. Interestingly, if you wanted a mustang convertible, you could only get it as an automatic transmission for a base price of $53,990 (no manual transmission available in Australia). The only options for this model were colours and a graphics package (racing stripes). There were ten colours in total, available both for Mustang GT and Ecoboost model.
There were subtle differences between American and Australian Mustang EcoBoost Turbo. Apart from the obvious (RHD), Australian versions had slightly different lower grille and bigger review mirrors.
