Copying the hierarchy of the outgoing model, the new 7th generation Mustang lineup starts with the four-cylinder EcoBoost version. The 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost represents an excellent value for money, combining decent performance with affordable price and excellent fuel economy. Under the bonnet is a familiar 2.3-litre four-pot but with improved internals, a new direct fuel-injection system, a new cylinder head, a turbo and an external EGR valve. However, despite the changes, the power is just slightly up at 315 hp (234 kW) and a solid 480 Nm of torque. The EcoBoost engine is still one of the best small displacement units, and the changes resulted in slightly better performance and improved fuel economy. Ford claims that the base 2024 Mustang EcoBoost will use an average of 9.0 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres, which is more than a decent figure. The only transmission choice is a 10-speed automatic recalibrated for use in the Mustang S650 EcoBoost.
In terms of exterior design, the 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost has a less aggressive look with subtitle front and rear bumper, no bonnet scoops and twin exhaust pipes, rather than the four on the GT model. The S650 Mustang EcoBoost is again offered only as a Fastback (coupe) The Fastback has 376 litres of trunk space, which is more than the competitors. The 2024 Mustang EcoBoost interior is the most significant step forward since it features two massive screens – one serving as a digital instrument cluster and one as an infotainment screen. More than a few buttons and controls, like the HVAC system, have been moved to a touchscreen, which is not necessarily an improvement.
The Australian version of the 2024 EcoBoost Fastback will have what is known as a Premium Package interior in America. It includes a bigger 12.4-inch digital cluster, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, Sync 4 with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, an approach detection system with welcome/farewell lightning sequence and safety drivers’ assistance monitoring, including blind spot monitoring as standard. Interestingly, the Australian base spec 2024 EcoBoost will also get a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system with 12 speakers and a subwoofer. Due to the upgraded infotainment system, all 2024 Mustangs sold on the Australian market will have track apps accessible through the 12.4 digital instrument cluster. Driver will be able to use acceleration timer, brake performance, lap timer, line-lock feature and accelerometer. However, launch control is available only for manual-equipped cars, so it is not available on EcoBoost models. Also, five driving modes are standard as well. One of the coolest S650 Mustang options – the Drift Brake is included in the base spec model, which will make Mustang fans very happy and very sideways.
The Ford Mustang EcoBoost 2024 colour pallet comprises 11 hues and the optional EcoBoost Appearance Pack ($1,500), which includes a special EcoBoost spoiler and racing stripes which will give the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Fastback a unique look. The price starts at $64,990 AUD.
